Periodontal Disease and Gum Disease Therapy
Periodontal disease is disease of the gum tissue and bone that supports your teeth. It is completely preventable with proper oral care and regular professional cleanings and exams.
There are two main stages of periodontal disease: gingivitis and periodontitis. Both increase in severity without treatment. Gingivitis is mild and reversible, as it only affects the gums. If your dental provider notices you have gingivitis, he/she can work with you to create a treatment plan that improves your oral health. However, if gingivitis progresses to periodontitis, the tissue and bone may become damaged enough that those teeth may have to be removed.
Periodontal Therapy
Advanced periodontal disease requires advanced treatments. Treatments included scaling, root planing or surgery and can be combined with Laser Periodontal Therapy (LPT).
LPT uses laser technology to remove infected periodontal tissue with minimal discomfort over the course of a few dental visits. Once this tissue is removed, new, healthy tissue can grow.
Laser Periodontal Therapy removes bacteria from the gums with minimal anesthesia. We also offer sedation options for those who have a low pain tolerance or extreme anxiety about dental procedures. If your teeth ache, please get in touch with our dentist office.
